Managing an inbox is better. This is done by putting messages in folders and subfolders and all of your associated email messages must be in one place to be manageable. Drag your messages into new folders after creating them.

The instructions in this article apply to Outlook 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010, Outlook for office 365, and Outlook Online.

Create new folders or subfolders in Outlook

These procedures allow you to create folders and subfolders in Outlook 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010 and Outlook for office 365 in the same way. The menus, options and features remain the same even though there are some variations in other versions of Outlook.

 Go to the Folder tab and select New folder;

 In the Name text box, enter a name for the new folder;

 Select the arrow from the drop-down list The folder contains and choose Mail and send articles to store the emails in the folder;

 In the section select the folder location, choose the folder creation location;

 Select OK. The folder is created in the location you choose. Right-click where you want to create a new folder in the Folder pane, then select New Folder in case you don't want to use the menus to create a new folder.

How to delete a folder in Outlook

Delete the mail folder that you find important in Outlook. Do this by following these steps:

 In the Folders pane, right-click the folder or subfolder that you want to delete;

 Select Delete folder;

 Select Yes to confirm the deletion;

 The folder and its contents are moved to the Deleted Items folder. If you are connected to an email service such as Gmail via IMAP and it has its own folder, your deleted items are in the folder of the email service (the folder of deleted items can be called "trash" ).

 

How to Create Folders on Outlook.com

Outlook.com is one of the web versions of the Microsoft email client that looks and works like the desktop and mobile app versions, but differs from them in creating folders. The following instructions teach you how to get there:

 In the Folders pane, select New folder;

 When the empty field appears, enter the name you want to assign to the new folder and press Enter;

 The new folder is created in the left pane.

Create subfolders on Outlook.com

Under the folders of connected email accounts like Yahoo Mail or Gmail and under the custom folders and subfolders created you have the option of creating subfolders in your inbox. Right-click the folder where you want to add a subfolder, then select Create New Subfolder to create a subfolder.

Drag the folder to another folder to create a folder in a subfolder.
