From Windows Vista Microsoft stopped Outlook Express which in later versions of Windows has been replaced by Windows Mail. You have the option to import Outlook Express mail into the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client.
Importing mail from Outlook Express into Mozilla Thunderbird
It's simple to install Outlook Express in Mozilla Thunderbird, Thunderbird has an import functionality that does it without any problem. Follow these steps to import messages from Outlook Express into Mozilla Thunderbird:
§ Open Mozilla Thunderbird;
§ Select Tools / Import ... from the menu bar;
§ Click on the radio button next to Mail;
§ Click Next;
§ Highlight Outlook Express in the list;
§ Click Next again;
§ Read the list of what Thunderbird could import;
§ Click Finish to start the file transfer.
All of your local Outlook Express folders are imported into subfolders of a mailbox called Outlook Express Mail under Local Folders with Mozilla Thunderbird. Depending on your preference, it is possible to move them to other folders to integrate them into your Mozilla Thunderbird experience by dragging them into the desired folders.
Be aware that Thunderbird still has an active software development team that is still supported by Mozilla, which could change if funds run out.
