How to move or copy messages from one Gmail account to another - Intertuto

Add two Gmail accounts to a program like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird and manually drag messages or folders.

Two main methods are taken by Gmail to migrate emails between separate Gmail accounts. One is the use of Gmail itself, which consists of recovering messages or moving them manually in an email program like Outlook. Being manually done, moving messages in an email program allows you to keep your label configuration. You lose messages without tags by letting Gmail copy the messages for you and without the problem of migrating messages by hand. these three actions allow you to continue:

• Configure your old Gmail account for POP access;

• Configure your new Gmail account to retrieve old messages;

• Add the credentials from your old account to your new account.

How to configure POP access for your old account

To allow access using the Post Office protocol, your old account must be configured, but if it is already configured, you must ensure that all the email programs configured to download mail from your old Gmail account via POP are closed or are not configured to check Dr mail automatically. Then you go to the next section. Where the POP protocol is not activated:

• From your Gmail account, click the Settings gear icon () in the accounts toolbar;

• Select Settings;

• Click on transfer and POP / IMAP;

• In the POP Download section, select Enable POP for all messages (even messages already downloaded) as the status;

• From the step When messages are accessed with POP, select Archive copy of Gmail from the drop-down menu to delete the inbox of your old account, select delete copy of Gmail instead of moving the mail or to instead of copying it. It is also possible to choose to keep the copy of Gmail in the inbox to do nothing with the original message after its transfer or mark the copy of Gmail as read to leave the original message in the inbox and mark it as read so that you can know what has been passed and what hasn't.

• Click on Save changes;

• You should now have all of your old emails.

How to create recovery messages in your new Gmail account

• Once you are logged into the account, click on Gear Settings icon ();

• Select Settings from the menu;

• Go to the accounts and import tab;

• Click on Add an email account under check mail from other accounts;

• Enter the email address of the Gmail account from which you want to import under Email address;

• Click on Next;

• Make sure that the option Import emails from my other account (POP3) is selected;

• Click on Next;

• Check that the username of the desired Gmail account is correctly entered under Username;

• Enter the password of the Gmail account from which you are importing under Password;

• Select pop.gmail.com under POP server;

• Select 995 under port;

• Check if leaving a copy of the messages retrieved on the server is not checked;

• always verify using a secure connection copy (SSL) when checking mail recovery is verified. Select Label incoming messages and choose the label corresponding to the email address of the old Gmail account to an existing label or to a new label. Then select Archive incoming messages (ignore the inbox) so that imported emails do not appear in the inbox of your new Gmail account;

• Click on Add an account;

• Select yes, I want to be able to send a mail under the [email protected] or do you want to be able to also send a mail under the [email protected]? As you already have your old address created as the sending address in the new Gmail account will recognize your old sent messages and place them in the mail sent label. It is possible to add your old address as a sending address afterwards but if once you select No, immediately click on Finish and ignore the steps adding to the old address to the new account;

• The task should now be completed.

How to make your Gmail accounts recognize each other

These steps are insurance to make sure that your old Gmail address is recognized as one of yours by the new Gmail account and available for sending:

• continuing with yes, I want to be able to send a mail under the username @ gmail.com, click on Next step;

• Enter your name under Name;

• Click on the next step;

• Leave Treat as an alias checked;

• Click on the next step;

• Click on Send verification;

• Click on Close window;

• Click on the account icon in the upper right corner of Gmail;

• Select Logout in the sheet that appears;

• Connect to Gmail using the address from which you are importing;

• Open the Gmail team message with the subject Gmail confirmation-Send mail under the username @ gmail.com;

• Highlight and copy the digital confirmation code under confirmation code: if not, your browser could confuse Gmail accounts;

• Click on your account icon in the upper right corner;

• Select Logout;

• Log back into Gmail now with the account you import to;

• Click Settings gear icon ();

• Select Parameters from the menu that appears;

• Open the accounts and import tab;

• Click on verify for the address of the old Gmail account under Send mail as:

• Paste the verification code under Enter and verify the confirmation code;

• Click on verify;

• And now the Gmail account should be recognized.

The import is done in batches of 100 to 200 messages, starting with the oldest messages. The two accounts (the old address and the new Gmail account) can be effectively combined.

How to stop further importation of mail from the source Gmail account

• Click Settings gear icon () in the new Gmail account;

• Select Settings from the menu that appears;

• Access the accounts and import category;

• Click Delete for the Gmail account from which you imported under check mail from other accounts (using POP3);

• Click OK under Are you sure you want to delete this email account?

• And now your account should be gone.

Manual e-mail movement

In Gmail only, the steps described above work. From now on, messages from the old account will have new labels. It is possible to add the two Gmail accounts to a program like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird and manually drag messages or individual folders between the accounts while preserving the original labels of the old account.
