What is Cc and Bcc, what are their advantages and shortcomings and how to add recipients using the Bcc field.
The To field is not the only place to enter addresses when you compose an email to multiple recipients, Cc and Bcc are two other fields that also have the function of accepting recipients. The question is then to know, the fields Cc and Bcc are used for what exactly and when should they be used? The answers are in the rest of this article.
What does "Cc" mean?
Carbon copy is Cc in full. Carbon paper was used to send a letter to two people without writing or typing it twice before scanning the mail. This is done this way, when an email address is entered in the Cc field, the person in question automatically receives a copy of the message sent to the person in the To field which is important because it keeps people informed even if they are not in the center of the message.
It is possible to enter multiple email addresses in the Cc field and all addresses will receive a copy of the email but separate each email address with a comma.
Some drawbacks exist when sending carbon copies of emails. The original recipient and all carbon copy recipients see the email addresses to which the message was sent when you use the Cc field, and some people may object to their email address becoming public.
Other than that, the cluttered CC fields are not beautiful because they can become quite long and occupy a lot more screen. What is still very bad is that when someone replies to all the messages in your message, any recipient of the Cc field receives it (receives the reply) too.
What does BCC mean?
This in turn means invisible carbon copy, it hides the e-mail addresses entered. Here, Bcc recipients can only be viewed by the original originator of the email. Enter your email address in the To field and use Bcc for recipients to maintain maximum anonymity.
It is a little confidential because the people appearing in the Bcc field do not receive responses from recipients To or Cc. This comes in handy during a long conversation in case you don't want to spam everyone's inboxes. The other usefulness of the BCC is when you send a message to undisclosed recipients or when you send a newsletter to undisclosed recipients.
