There are several products to transmit music to a car stereo, and they all have advantages and disadvantages. However, if you want to make a choice of a car kit for iPod or iPhone, you can do it between:

- FM Transmitters for iPhone and iPod,

- Integrated plugs,

- iPod Cassette Adapters.

IPhone and iPod FM Transmitters

These devices can connect to the device's dock connector or Lightning port to stream music from the iPod or iPhone to the car radio on the FM radio channel that was selected.

Advantages:

- High quality sound

- Probably the best product for the budget conscious

- Most charge the device in use

 The disadvantages:

- More expensive than cassette adapters

- Subject to interference from other FM signals

- Can be embarrassing while driving

Built-in iPod / iPhone jacks

These audio jacks are pre-installed in some new cars and can be purchased as an option from dealers or added as replacement parts. However, a plug is added to the car stereo to allow you to connect an audio cable from the iPod or iPhone to the jack.

Since the jack is connected to the stereo, the music will pass through it.

Advantages:

- No additional accessories to remember

- The sound is of the highest quality among these options

- The devices are expensive and the installation is extra

- Not available on all cars

- Do not charge the device

carplay

CarPlay is Apple's embedded computing platform, which translates the interface of the iPhone and selects applications in a user-friendly display compatible with cars, displayed on touch-sensitive information consoles built into the dashboard. Although CarPlay is linked to the built-in jacks, it's not quite the same thing. Some cars come with CarPlay devices or can be added as aftermarket accessories.

Advantages:

- The complete iPhone platform gives access to calls, SMS, maps and more on a big screen.

- Excellent sound quality

- Most can be controlled by touch or voice using Siri

- Most charge the device while it is in use

The disadvantages:

- Works only with the iPhone, not with other iOS or iPod devices

- Only a limited number of applications is compatible with CarPlay

- expensive additions

IPhone / iPod cassette adapter, generic

These iPhone / iPod cassette adapters come from generic manufacturers and are not specifically designed to work with an iPhone or iPod.

Advantages:

- Lowest price

- Relatively available, so even if they do not work forever, it's not a huge loss

The disadvantages:

- sometimes of poor quality, so they can break easily

- Requires a tape recorder, that all cars no longer own

- Acceptable audio quality.

IPhone / iPod cassette adapter, brand name

These iPhone or iPod cassette adapters are inserted into the tape recorder and feature a depleted line that is plugged into the headphone jack on the unit. There are branded cassette adapters designed specifically for use with the iPhone / iPod, and generic adapters designed for any type of audio equipment.

The played music is then sent via the headphone jack to the cassette adapter and speakers of the stereo system.

Advantages:

- No FM interference

- Designed specifically for iPod and iPhone

- The style corresponds to Apple devices

- Some features specific to the iPhone / iPod

The disadvantages:

- More expensive than generic adapters

- Requires a tape recorder, that all cars no longer own

- Acceptable audio quality.
